Progression
Below is a screen shot of our prelim. I've picked this screen shot because it shows a continuity error and this shows how much we have improved because this was a simple mistake but in our film there are no mistakes and the quality has drastically improved. I have gained skills of using software such as Adobe Premiere over the course of this project and I have an improved using the equipment. I have progressed a lot with the editing software as I now have a lot more knowledge than i did at the start of the course Anna already knew a fair bit about the editing software do i have learnt from her as well as the teachers.
We met one of our targets as we did stay a lot more focused due to our organisation however we did have to re film. but we dealt with it reasonably well and we finished our film to the best of our abilities.

Social Groups
Our media product represents the social groups of teachers, youth, men and women so it actually appeals to a wide market. In our film teachers are shown in a negative way as he makes a pass at a pupil and the pupil rejects him. Our film also shows men in a negative way as the main male character is being related to crime and sex. We used mise en scene to create this representation by showing anger in the teacher by having him throw his pen and shouting 'bitch' after his student runs away from him. Our female youth is vulnerable and innocent.
Below is a screen shot of Mr Williams at the board looking angry and disturbed.

Technologies
I have learnt how to use the technology of a digital camcorder (Canon HV30) by doing the process of constructing our product. We used this camera to do all of our filming and we also had use of a tripod. I have learnt a lot about editing in the programme Adobe Premiere Pro. We all used this programme to edit and put together our film and to also add in transitions, effects and sounds. I have also never used the microphone and that helped a lot when picking up the sound of speech.

Conventions
We Used the colour Red because red represents danger also the font we have used would give people and idea that the film is going to be a thriller we have also put it in the middle with a good size font so that it stands out. It is also a different style to the title sequence to make it stand out.
TITLE SEQUENCE
This is the production company again we have used red on the black background used in films such as godfather. But it is in a different font (STENCIL) again it also shows danger and creates tension.
LIGHTING
As you can see in this shot you can see that we have used natural light we didnt really want to tamper with it so we could make it look natural.
In this shot it is a lot darker but we are till using natural light. natural light is typically used in crime films so it gives an effect of realism we have made it darker so it looks scary and spooky.
CHARACTERISATION
As film makers want to make the beginning of the film exciting and want to make the audience keep watching they use a small amount of actors in the opening sequence so the audience want to find out more about what is happening. Using two main actors in our film helped make the chase sequence even better as the audience know that no one is around to help Katie as everyone has gone home. We made Mr Williams seem creepy and not quite right so that it gave the audience a sense of realism also during the chase katies facial expressions just gets the audience even more interested and involved.
This is another screen shot. It is an over shoulder shot of the teacher looking over his three students that are in detention.
CAMERA ANGLES
In our Project we used a variety of different camera shots which use conventions of real media products as we have wide shots, mid shots, two shots, panning shots and shots filmed from high angles. By using all of these shots we are keeping the audience entertained. We also achieved good quality shots which we were quite proud of. A good range of camera angles and shots achieves this.
Screenshot from a high angle. This angle we also had it panning downwards following Mr Williams chasing Katie
EDITING TRANSITIONS
With our visual effects we used the same transition every time to keep the continuity we were very pleased
with the result of this. A Transition like this is easy on the eye and nicely fades into the next shot.
Below is a screen shot which shows the effect of the fade.

GENRE
Our genre is a college crime thriller and our opening sequence suggests this as within our opening sequence a chase sequence takes place. Our genre can also be identified through the font style and colour which has been mentioned previously. I believe that our font shows clearly the genre we are trying to use. Our font is red to symbolise danger. I think the chase sequence is the main Shot of the opening title sequence because it more or less shows what our film is going to be about.

Location
This is our opening shot where we pan the whole college to show where it is set.
This shot is where the chase sequence will occur where Mr Williams will chase Katie Edwards.
This shot is where Mr Williams will Make a move on Katie.

Construction
Each week we filmed 3 times a week but on some occasions some people of our group were not in which then left the others with nothing to do. In the first week we filmed our opening sequences then we filmed our chase sequence which took 2 days after we finished filming the chase we then tried several different endings one was in a house one was where Katie was killed in a classroom but instead we chose to leave it on a cliff hanger. When we finished our filming we tried to get into the editing suite as much as possible but at times it was difficult because other groups were using our computer we are still yet to finish our editing or doing the sound
Scheduling
We wrote up a shooting schedule so we all knew when we would be filming. We also wrote up a shot list along with the storyboard so we knew which shot we were doing when. We didn't really think that we would have any problems
The Pitch
In class me Dom and Anna showed our power point to the class and overall we had mixed feedback from the class which was good for us as we learnt a lot from that, A few people didnt really get the story but after the feedback we saw where we went wrong so we put them straight.
Below is a few slides from our Presentation.

Below is a few slides from our Presentation.

Our feedback was mixed after giving a powerpoint presentation to the class and so we took out actor Dave so we only had two main actors so there will be less confusion and our location is only going to be in college instead of using a home and a car aswell.
The casting is now:
Anna-Katie-Student
Jacob-Mr.Williams-Teacher
Dom-Backing Actor
Scott-Backing Actor2
Organisation of Resources
Costume ideas:
In our film we have gone for a school theme so the students will be wearing their clothes for school and Mr Williams will be wearing shirt and tie as he is a teacher it is typically what they wear.

Prop ideas:
In our film we don't have many props it's just the odd stuff around the classroom
Location:
We are filming our film all around the college and in the classroom
Casting:
Mr Williams-Jacob Wynn
Katie Edwards-Anna Ashbarry

Extras-Scott Taylor

& Dominic Williams
Script:
Myself and Anna first created the script but there was too much dialogue so we had to get rid of some of it

Age Rating.
I have used a website called BBFC to decide the age rating of our film.
This logo means suitable for all ages. It is impossible to upset a child but just to be safe ages four and over. Set with a positive moral framework and doesn't include any violence or horrific behavior. Suitable for pre-school children to watch on there own.
This logo means the film is suitable to audiences of the ages twelve or over. May upset children under the age of twelve or parents may not find material suitable for there child. Also an adult can take a younger child to go see the film on there own judgement, this isn't highly recommended though. No one younger then twelve can buy or rent a video or DVD classed as a 12 or a 12 and over.
Suitable only for the ages fifteen or over. No one younger the fifteen may be a '15' film in a cinema, also no one younger then fifteen can buy or rent a DVD classified as a '15'
Suitable for only adults. No one under the age of eighteen may see an '18' film in a cinema, also they will not be allowed to rent or buy an '18' film.
To be shown in only specially licensed cinemas or supplied in only licensed sex shops and only to adults that are eighteen years old and over. The ‘R18’ category is a special and legally restricted classification primarily for explicit works of consenting sex or strong fetish material involving adults. Films may only be shown to adults in specially licensed cinemas, and video works may be supplied to adults only in licensed sex shops. ‘R18’ videos may not be supplied by mail order.
The reason for age restrictions is so people under the certain age cannot see the film as it would not be appropriate for them to watch it
Our film is going to be a 15.
The distributors of our film is going to be Working title and our production company is Echord.
The production company would fund our film
TITLES:
- Production Company (Echord Production)
- Highest Billing
- (Jacob Wynn as Mr.Williams)
- (Anna Ashbarry as Katie Edwards)
- Title of the film
- Supporting Cast
- Crew (Sound by Dom Williams)
- Produced by (Working Title)
- Director (Scott Taylor)
There isnt many films similar to ours however there is one its called Murder 101. Below is a link to the trailer

Titles
The whole purpose of the titles is to show the actors/actresses and all the people involved in the film.
It also gives you an idea of what the film will be about it will also tell you who directed the film, who produced it and the title of the film.
For this analysis I watched the opening sequence of the 2008 film HOSTAGE in the opening sequence it is all black and red which symbolizes Danger. the music is rather tense and it sounds as if it is leading up to something. All the pictures are animated and the people have guns and it shows the police which tells you straight away what the film will entail. The first title to come up is the distributors-then is the production company-then comes the director-then the main actor (Bruce Willis)-then the title-the the rest of the actors. The link to the opening sequence is below.

For our titles we have gone for the black background with a red font to fit our crime thriller genre

The functions of an opening sequence in a crime film are designed to tell the audience the names of who is in the film and who helped organise and make the film. This sequence normally follows a set order.
The order is:
- Producer
- Highest billing
- Director
- Title
- Actor
- Cast
- Crew
- Final name
Conventions of a crime film
In our film the conventions of crime are
Murder
Police
Criminal
Detective
American Gangsta
The conventions of a crime films are:
1. The hero is an immigrant who dislikes his low status in life and wants more.
2. Unlike the Western, this story takes place in the big city. The wide open plains have been traded in for the seedy alleyways and wharves of the urban jungle.
3. The gangster can only gain power by taking it. It is survival of the fittest, and the only law is the law of the jungle.
4. The only loyalty the gangster feels is for his own immigrant roots.
5. Success is measured in material goods – flashy cars, expensive clothes, and mansions. Women are measures of success as well.
6. The hero’s antagonist is society, and the enforcers of the law. The police, the FBI, the CIA represent the enforcers of societal status quo.
7. The end justifies the means.
